We cultivate our seagrapes in Nha Trang Bay, Vietnam, using a combination of indoor and outdoor farming methods., ensuring they thrive in the cleanest water, allowing them to maintain their freshness and exceptional texture. With their unique flavor and delicate crunch, our seagrapes are perfect for a variety of dishes, from sushi to salads and everything in between.

Now, after years of successful growth in Asia, we're excited to bring Umibudo Seagrapes to Canada, sharing the incredible taste of the ocean with a new audience. Our journey is just beginning, and we’re thrilled to be part of the growing movement towards better, more sustainable food choices.

How Do Seagrapes Grow?

Seagrapes, also known as Umibudo, are a type of seaweed that thrives in the ocean’s natural environment. Unlike land plants, seagrapes grow submerged in seawater, absorbing nutrients directly from the surrounding water. Their unique growth process and delicate nature make them a fascinating and sought-after ingredient in kitchens worldwide.

What Does It Take to Grow Seagrapes?

  1. Natural Seawater
Seagrapes require exceptionally clean seawater to grow, much like the pristine conditions found near coral reefs. The water must be free of contaminants to ensure healthy, vibrant growth.
  2. Light
Light plays a crucial role in the growth of seagrapes, just as it does for land plants. Natural sunlight or carefully controlled artificial light helps them photosynthesize and thrive in their aquatic environment.
  3. Temperature
Maintaining the right temperature is essential. Seagrapes flourish in warm, tropical climates where the water temperature mimics their natural habitat.
  4. Protection from Harsh Conditions
Seagrapes are delicate and need to be shielded from strong currents, storms, and typhoons, which can damage or uproot them. Ensuring a stable, safe environment is key to their successful cultivation.

Our Approach to Growing Seagrapes

At Umibudo Seagrapes, we’ve perfected the art of growing seagrapes in both indoor and outdoor farms. Using advanced filtration systems, we replicate the ideal conditions of natural seawater, ensuring purity and cleanliness at every stage. Our farms are located in secure environments, protecting the delicate plants from the unpredictable forces of storms and typhoons.

This careful attention to detail allows us to produce seagrapes that are not only sustainable but also of the highest quality. With their natural crunch and unique flavor, our seagrapes bring a little piece of the ocean straight to your table.

Growing seagrapes is a balance of science and nature, and we’re proud to share this remarkable seaweed with the world!

Taste

Umibudo, the Japanese word for ‘Sea Grapes’ or ‘Green Caviar’. An edible seaweed with little bubbles on its stems, which remind of a small green cluster of grapes or fish roe. The bubbles break easily on the tongue, releasing a slightly salty taste of southern sea freshness. When used raw it is a visually attractive ingredient with a gel-like, aqueous mouth-feeling.

Taste Friends

Seagrapes are prized for their subtle ocean flavor and signature "popping" texture. While they may not be flavorful on their own, they shine when paired with complementary dishes and sauces, adding a unique twist to any meal.

Perfect Pairings with Seagrapes

Sushi: Add seagrapes to sushi rolls for a fresh, briny kick and a pop of texture.Use them as a topping on sashimi or nigiri, placing them delicately on fish to elevate the dish with a vibrant look and taste.

Rice Dishes: Pair seagrapes with sushi rice or rice bowls to bring a refreshing, oceanic flavor and visual appeal. Enhance poke bowls or chirashi bowls by scattering seagrapes over the top.
